Charleston, SC, January 27, 2011 – EnviroMix announced today that its large-bubble mixing technology will be used as part of a potable water quality upgrade project for the Alligator Rural Water & Sewer Co., Inc., McBee, South Carolina. This public utility services a large majority of Chesterfield County, South Carolina, providing potable water to approximately 35,000 customers.
The potable water upgrade project will provide a steady, centralized supply of water from the utility’s ten Middendorf aquifer wells. As part of the project, a two million gallon ground storage tank will be constructed. The EnviroMix AquaBlend™ system will provide the necessary tank mixing by firing programmed short bursts of highly-filtered compressed air through engineered, floor-mounted nozzles. The softball-sized bubbles mix from the tank bottom to the water surface, creating a distinctive mixing pattern, or “tank roll.” The blending parameters of the AquaBlend™ controller may be varied for optimum mixing and power utilization. Tank mixing provides a homogenous level of disinfectant and prevents issues created by thermal stratification resulting from stagnant tank water.
The design consultant for Kellahan & Associates Engineers, Myron Kellahan P.E., recognizes the fact that “the system components needing maintenance are out of the tank, eliminating the need to take the tank out of service and having to perform laborious tank disinfection prior to placing the tank back into service.”
