Charleston, SC, August 28, 2014 – EnviroMix announced today that its efficient mixing technology has been selected to be included on a project to upgrade the Bradford Wastewater Treatment Plant in Bradford Pennsylvania as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Act 537 Plan to eliminate overflows and other disposal issues.
The upgrade will increase the facility’s treatment capacity by increasing its design flow from 6.3 million gallon per day (MGD) to 8.8 MGD, and its peak flow from 12 MGD to 22 MGD, an upgrade which, alongside the implementation of the BioMix™ Compressed Gas Mixing System, will help prevent overflows while enabling the facility to operate effectively for future Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR).
The Bradford Sanitary Authority has chosen the BioMix Compressed Gas Mixing System to mix the Pre-Aeration Tanks and plant-wide Channels in order to improve mixing and help facilitate future nutrient removal at the plant. The BioMix system will use less than 1/4 of the energy that was required by the existing diffused air mixing system.
Tony Elberti of Gannett Fleming stated “The coarse bubble diffusers that currently provide mixing in Bradford’s channels receive air from the same blower used for the aeration basin. The difference in water depth and equipment headloss between the two applications results in significant issues with air distribution and is a common problem experienced at many plants. Implementation of the BioMix Compressed Gas Mixing will alleviate this issue, as well as provide mixing in a very efficient manner.”
The BioMix system is expected to be operational by fall of 2015, and EnviroMix is pleased to provide the Bradford Sanitary Authority with an energy-efficient mixing solution custom-fit to meet their mixing and future nutrient removal needs.
